Originals & Swim size guide

Kids grow and develop differently – and their heads are no different! While we have age ranges on our sizes they’re really just that: a guide. We recommend you choose a size by head measurement to get the perfect fit.

Check out our video of tips (and some tricks) to help you measure your little one!

Best Hats in Sun Protection - Legionnaire - Best for new babies

Super soft and light on heads, this hat is designed for use in prams, carriers and car seats thanks to the neck flap that lies comfortably flat when baby does. A foam insert in the brim keeps it upright so baby can look out, and can be angled to detract glare or sun.

Best Hats in Sun Protection - Toddler Bucket - For little ones on the move

A classic style with deep panelled crown that introduces little ones to an angled brim in their line of sight once they’re able to sit up and crawl. The brim is made from a felt insert, meaning it keeps its shape but is still soft and cosy when bub is leaning back in a pram or carrier.

Best Hats in Sun Protection - Classic Bucket - Anti-flop brims for big kids

No floppy brims here! Our foam-reinforced brims are anti-flop so kids can play and enjoy their adventures without having to worry about not being able to see. This classic style has a band around the brim and is soft, stretchy and roomy for growing heads.

Best Hats in Sun Protection - Ponytail Bucket - Anti-flop brims with ponytail holes for longer hair

Along with floppy brims, uncomfortable fit thanks to ponytails is a common complaint amongst hat-haters. We solved the problem with a foam anti-flop brim and simple slit at the back for hair to pull through. Our deep panelled crowns complete the stylish and feminine style!

Steps to success!

Step 1: Distract the child with a toy or food (so they don't try to help you!).

Step 2: Use a measuring tape to take the measurement. Otherwise, use a ribbon to take the size then use a ruler to find the measurement.

Step 3: Choose a hat size closest to your child's measurement. These fabrics are very stretchy and will grow up to 4cms. For example: the child's head measures 41cms, you will need the 42cm size that will stretch another 4cms up to 46cms - giving plenty of future wear. Purchasing the next size up would be too large and block the child's vision.

TIP: It's best for babies to learn to wear hats from birth, before motor skills develop.
