DIY Teddy Bear Party Hats: The Cutest Craft for Your Teddy Bear Picnic

The perfect activity for little hands – and even cuter results!

Planning a teddy bear picnic or birthday party? These DIY teddy bear party hats are an easy and adorable craft that little ones will love – and they make every teddy (and their human!) look party-ready.

Here’s how to make your own:

What You’ll Need:

A pack of standard cardboard party hats

Scrap fabric (old t-shirts work perfectly!)

A piece of fluffy fabric (an old blanket or jumper works well)

Scissors

Craft glue

Pom poms (optional)

Our printable teddy bear frame (download below!)

Colouring pencils or markers

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Yellow Party Hat

1. Flatten a Party Hat
Take one of the party hats and carefully unravel it so it lies flat. This will be your template.

2. Trace & Cut
Lay your flattened hat over your chosen fabric and trace around it. Then cut out the shape – this will be the new ‘skin’ of your party hat.

3. Wrap & Glue
Take a fresh, still-assembled party hat and smear glue all over the outside. Gently wrap your fabric around the hat, pressing it into place. A snug fit works best!

4. Add a Fluffy Rim (Optional but Adorbs)
Trace along the curved bottom of the hat template on your fluffy fabric. Cut out a 1-inch strip of fluffy fabric and glue it around the rim. It gives it that cuddly teddy-bear vibe.

5. Top it with a Pom Pom (Why not?)
Glue a pom pom to the top of the hat for a classic party hat look – or leave it off if you’re going for a simpler style.

6. Add a Teddy Face
Download our teddy printable and let the kids colour them in! Then simply cut out the teddy frame (we’ve made it an easy oval or circle shape!) and glue it to the front of the party hat.
