HOW TO... Bubble wrap watercolour blossom trees

30 March 20220 Comments

We all know kids love to paint - with a paintbrush! Their fingers! Stamps! How about bubble wrap?

Next time you get a parcel with the little air bubbles they love to jump on and pop so much, save a few squares and get them to try this simple but effective painting technique! If bubble wrap isn't your thing, you can try a scrunched up piece of aluminium foil or newspaper too for a similar effect.

Watercolour paints
Plates
Water
A paintbrush
Bubble Wrap
A toilet paper square
An elastic band

How to...

1. Squirt a little of each colour you want to use onto a small side plate. Add a little bit of water and mix. Add white or grey to lighten/darker your colour until it's just right!

2. Scrunch up the toilet paper square and wrap the bubble wrap around, bubbles facing out. Use an elastic band to secure so it's a stamp. This can easily be washed in-between colours by rinsing with water and pressing into a tea towel to dry.

3. Press the bubble wrap stamp into the paint you wish to use. Use a scrap piece of paper to blot the excess paint off until it's stamping lightly. Press the stamp onto the tree - harder for bigger splotches; lighter for more delicate ones. Repeat with all the colours until your tree is covered. Once dry hang with all their other pretty works of art!

We love working with watercolours - they can somehow make even the most abstract of toddler arts look amazing thanks to the beautiful watery blends! Our Posie hat print reminds us of watercolour flowers, and inspired this craft! Posie is available in Legionnaire, Toddler Bucket and Ponytail Bucket and is online now.
